AWR has “little effect” on umbrella contractors employment

Agency worker regulations (AWR) has had little impact on the hiring of umbrella contractors, says recruitment agency Randstad.

The survey reported that 78 per cent of firms claimed to already providing conditions in line with AWR before the regulations had come into effect.

In addition, there looks to be a growing trend not only for hiring temporary contractors, but for contractors themselves to consider changing their terms of employment.

Randstad reported that 48 per cent of permanent workers are considering seeking out temporary work when next they have a career change as this is seen as more financially rewarding.

Mark Bull, chief executive officer of Randstad UK, comments:

“Clearly, many people are turning to this work style because there are less permanent opportunities, but the lack of job security during this slow recovery is also encouraging people to think seriously about temping or contracting for the first time.

“Those that do are enjoying a warm welcome in many organisations – as they seek to harness much needed skills within a flexible employment contract.”

Technical-E has a wide range of accountancy services to suit contractors, freelancers and agency workers.
